Producer confidence increases in August

  • 31 August 2020

In August, industrial entrepreneurs were less negative for the fourth consecutive month, according to figures from Statistics Netherlands. Producer confidence went from -8.7 in July to -5.4 in August. Manufacturers were less negative about their order books and stocks of finished products.

The average for the past twenty years is 0.4. Entrepreneur confidence reached its highest value (10.9) in February 2018 and its lowest value (-28.7) in April 2020. As of April 2020, negatively-motivated entrepreneurs will have the upper hand.

All sub-indicators of producer confidence are negative. There are more entrepreneurs who expect their production to decrease over the next three months than those who anticipate an increase in production. The number of entrepreneurs who consider their order position to be small prevails over the number of entrepreneurs who consider their order book to be large, given the time of year. The number of entrepreneurs who consider the stock of finished products to be too large is greater than the number who consider the stocks to be too small.

Manufacturing industry almost 10 percent lower in June

The average daily production of Dutch industry in June was 9.7 percent lower than in June 2019. The decrease is slightly smaller than in the previous two months.
