Planted is introducing a first to the Dutch market: a fermented plant-based steak made with 100% natural ingredients. The Swiss food tech company, known for its clean-label products, is expanding its offering in the Netherlands with this new addition.
The planted.steak is made from soy protein, bean and rice flour, combined with microbial cultures. Through a proprietary fermentation process, the steak gains a rich umami flavour and a fibrous, tender texture. According to co-founder Lukas Böni, the product was created to “impress even the most critical foodies,” and was developed in collaboration with over 50 chefs.
The planted.steak (120 g) is now available in the Netherlands through Albert Heijn and various restaurants. On 24 April, the planted.steak Marinade Paprika (2x 80 g) will follow—a thinner cut in a paprika marinade, designed for a quick lunch or weekday meal.
The product contains no artificial additives or preservatives and is naturally high in protein, fibre, iron and vitamin B12. Compared to a traditional beef steak, the planted.steak produces 97% less CO₂ emissions and uses 81% less water. “Sustainability and enjoyment can go hand in hand,” Böni adds.
