The idea for 'valorising' citrus peels originated during a chemistry course in York, England, in 2016. Now PeelPioneers processes the lion's share of all orange peels in the Netherlands. From the peels, PeelPioneers mainly extracts dietary fibre, antioxidants and orange oil. These are extracted for use in foodstuffs, cosmetics and cleaning products. The 'pulp' that remains is used by farmers as cattle feed. So every piece of the peel is used 100%. GEA was there from the beginning. As a supplier and now as a partner. We spoke with one of the founders of PeelPioneers, Sytze van Stempvoort.
