The latest Climate and Energy Exploration (KEV) delivers encouraging news for the Dutch food industry and the nation as a whole. Predictions indicate that the Netherlands' greenhouse gas emissions could decrease by 46 to 57 percent by 2030, compared to 1990 levels. This brings the national climate objective of a 55 percent reduction closer than ever before.
New strategies at both national and European levels have resulted in an additional 5 percentage point decrease compared to last year. However, achieving the utmost reduction percentage is contingent upon various factors, including weather patterns and electricity imports.
For an effective approach, appropriate conditions are crucial. This demands adjustments in laws and regulations, expedited permit processes for energy infrastructure, and the presence of well-trained personnel to implement these plans.
The message to the Dutch food industry is clear: time is of the essence, but with collective efforts and tangible actions, the 2030 climate objective can genuinely be realized.
