NVWA tariffs set to rise in 2025: what’s changing?

  • 27 November 2024

From January 1, 2025, businesses and entrepreneurs will face new tariffs from the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA). These tariffs apply to services such as inspections, certification, sampling, and analyses. The adjustments follow decisions made by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security, and Nature (LVVN) and the Ministry of Health, Welfare, and Sport (VWS).

Key changes to cost structure

The NVWA adjusts its tariffs annually to account for wage increases, price developments, and changes in supervision. For 2025, an average tariff increase of 11.5% has been announced. This increase excludes tariffs for slaughter inspections, which are affected by the integration of Kwaliteitskeuring Dierlijke Sector (KDS) into the NVWA. This integration will lead to higher tariffs for certain inspections, such as those carried out by official assistants. Thanks to a one-time measure by the state secretary, this specific increase for 2025 will be capped at an average of 16%.

Publication and access to tariffs

The revised tariffs have been published in the Government Gazette and are available on the NVWA website. Tariffs determined by the Ministry of VWS will be added soon. This overview provides businesses with insight into the financial implications of these changes for their operations.

With these adjustments, the NVWA is responding to changes within the sector and the cost structure of its services.
