On July 29, Nutreco announced the completion of the world's first production facility for cell feed in Boxmeer. This new factory is specifically designed for the production of powders that serve as nutrients for cultured meat products. With this development, Nutreco takes an important step in advancing innovative solutions for the food industry.
The new facility in Boxmeer is fully dedicated to producing cell feed, which is crucial for the growth of the cultured meat industry. The team at the site has already produced the first commercial batch of 50 kilograms, with plans to produce hundreds of kilograms weekly. Although this is just a small portion of the nine billion kilograms of products Nutreco produces annually, this development holds significant potential for further scaling.
Nutreco views the production of cell feed as a vital contribution to global food security. According to Susanne Wiegel, head of the Alternative Protein Program, one of the biggest challenges in the cultured protein industry is finding a cost-efficient and sustainable way to feed protein cells at scale. Nutreco aims to play a leading role in this and is committed to becoming a reliable supplier and solutions partner for this emerging industry.
With the completion of this facility, Nutreco demonstrates its determination to contribute to the growth of the cultured meat industry, and by extension, to the future of food supply.
