In early July 2019, the government announced a new subsidy scheme for 'Accelerated climate investments in industry' (VKII). From 1 August, €28 million will be available for large-scale investments in energy efficiency, recycling and reuse of waste, local infrastructure and other CO2-reducing measures. This scheme offers great opportunities for the food industry.
Producers and distributors in the industry are eligible for subsidies when they invest in equipment, systems or techniques that reduce CO2 emissions. Eligible investments are those that focus on, for example:
- Energy efficiency
- Recycling and reuse of waste
- Other CO2 reducing measures
Investments must be proven to work. This means that the technology has already been demonstrated at least three times in the Netherlands. The investments are eligible for a subsidy if they have a payback period of more than five years without a subsidy.
The application period is from 1 August 2019 to 30 June 2020. The assessment will be made in the order in which it is received. We therefore expect the subsidy budget to be exhausted quickly. It is therefore important to take immediate action if you want to be eligible for a subsidy. We advise you to submit an application as soon as possible, or on the day of opening.
Depending on the investment, the subsidy is 30% to 70%. The subsidy amount is a minimum of € 125,000 and a maximum of € 3 million. The budget for this scheme is € 28 million. Because accelerated CO2 reduction in the Netherlands is the main objective by 2020, the focus is on large-scale projects.
The name of the scheme already shows that it can be used widely. There are therefore opportunities for your organisation or project!
