Workers in the fruit and vegetable processing industry have a new collective agreement. The trade union members (CNV Vakmensen and FNV Voedingsindustrie) have accepted the employers' final CBA offer with a large majority.
The CBA applies to approximately 3,000 employees at a total of about 50 companies in the sector, including well-known names such as HAK, Coroos and Heinz.
It is a two-year collective agreement, from 1 July 2021 to 1 July 2023. During the term, wages will increase in two steps: 2.25% on October 1, 2021 and 2.25% on October 1, 2022. Although not all of the members' wishes have been met, the union negotiators are reasonably positive about the outcome.
Ellen Jonker, negotiator for CNV Vakmensen: "There is ample support from our members for these agreements. Wages will increase by 4.5% in two years' time, which provides clarity. We have also made a good deal for employees who provide volunteer care. Employers are open to this. The ultimate goal is to prevent employees from becoming overburdened and falling ill, because that would mean we'd be even worse off. Because then we are further from home."
