NAPV information campaign starts: 'Every step counts'.

  • 07 June 2022

On 28 June 2022, during a digital meeting, State Secretary Van Ooijen will give the go-ahead for an information campaign about the National Product Improvement Approach (NAPV), under the motto: 'Every step counts. Together towards an improved product composition in 2030'. During the meeting, the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport will call on the food industry - including supermarkets, the hospitality sector and catering - to improve the composition of processed foods by actively participating in the National Product Improvement Approach.

"Within the framework of the Agreement on the Improvement of Product Composition and the National Prevention Agreement, steps have already been taken towards an improved composition of processed products. This new approach accelerates and broadens this movement. Together we can make the difference and work towards a healthier society", said State Secretary Van Ooijen.

Every step counts

The meeting is part of a year-long information campaign under the motto 'Every step counts. Together towards an improved product composition in 2030'. As part of this campaign, the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport is facilitating a series of informative meetings in the autumn of 2022 and the spring of 2023. In addition, news, information materials, good examples and tips will be shared via a closed LinkedIn group.

Interested parties from the entire food sector can register for the meeting on 28 June via aanmelder.nl and for the closed LinkedIn group.

National Product Improvement Approach

The National Product Improvement Approach is the successor to the Product Composition Improvement Agreement, which expired at the end of 2020. In order to implement the objectives of the Prevention Agreement, a working group of scientists from the RIVM, the Voedingscentrum and the HAS University of Applied Sciences, under the direction of the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport, developed a methodology and criteria for 14 product groups and 64 subgroups. The objective of the National Product Improvement Approach is to increase the share of products with the most favourable composition from 25% to 50% in 2030, while the share of least favourable products will shift from 25% to 10%.
