NAGF opens the world's first edible bus stop in Breda

  • 17 September 2021

When you walk down an average shopping street in the Netherlands, you are confronted with unhealthy food everywhere. Supermarkets, TV commercials and billboards encourage us to eat food that is too sweet, too salty and too fatty. It is therefore not surprising that the average Dutch person does not reach the recommended daily intake of fruit and vegetables. To change this, Nationaal Actieplan Groenten en Fruit (NAGF) opened a unique, edible bus stop on Karnemelkstraat in Breda in cooperation with parties from the fruit and vegetable sector and social organisations.

World's first edible bus stop: pass on fruit and vegetables

With the world's first edible bus stop - a colourful scene full of apples, pears, peppers, avocados, cucumbers and tomatoes - growers, traders, health funds and social organisations want to draw attention to the importance of more fruit and vegetables within the national campaign 'Pass on colour'. This is desperately needed now that the average Dutch person eats less fruit and vegetables than is healthy. Geef kleur door' is doing everything it can to get the Netherlands to eat more fruit and vegetables. The bus stop full of vitamins will be open to everyone in the coming days and all vegetables and fruit may be taken home for yourself or for someone else.

The bus stop could be visited in Breda from 15 to 21 September.
