Most consumers note the quality mark

  • 15 October 2020

For three or five Dutch people, quality marks play an important role in the choice of food and drink. In fact, one in six indicate that they always consciously choose products with a quality mark. This is evident from the second edition of the Smart Food Monitor, a large-scale survey conducted by Multiscope among 7,300 Dutch people.

Animal welfare at number one

The most popular category of hallmark is that of animal welfare; 42% of Dutch people consider this type of hallmark important. This is complemented by nature and environmental labels (32%) and fair trade labels (32%). For both animal welfare, nature and environmental labels the importance has increased compared to 2016.

Ecolabels on fresh meat most important

The food products purchased with a quality mark are mostly fresh products. Particularly meat or fish are often purchased with a hallmark (62%). This is in line with the importance of animal welfare among consumers. Fresh fruit and vegetables (47%) and dairy products (41%) are also popular among hallmarked products purchased.
