More and more food producers are taking up the call to donate extra to the Voedselbank (Food Bank), which currently has a shortage of nutritious products due to an increase in clients. On 25 October, four Dutch food producers (Unox, Iglo, Hak and Bolletje) announced they were uniting as Winter Collective to come to the aid of the Voedselbank. An emphatic appeal was made to fellow producers to also donate extra and help people in need through the winter. Six brands have already responded. The ten brands are donating over 1.9 million products from the Winter Collective.
The six brands that have also decided to join the Winter Collective are: Honig, Koninklijke De Ruijter (both The Kraft Heinz Company), FrieslandCampina, Maaslander, Calvé and No Fairytales. In addition to soups, jars of vegetables and pulses, snacks and frozen meals, the expansion of the collective means products such as cheese, long-life milk, chocolate sprinkles, peanut butter and vegetable wraps are now on offer. The Winter Collective is an open collective that other brands can join that also want to contribute to help families.
Esther van Spronsen of Unox: "As a collective, we have received many positive and warm reactions from fellow brands and producers. It shows that collectively we are able to contribute to a major and urgent social problem. It is heartening that six wonderful brands have already joined the collective in the past two weeks. We are all doing this from the same conviction: no one should go hungry in the Netherlands." And the collective continues. Producers can still join and participate. Gladly even, because the need is really high. Small or large producers, large donations or smaller numbers. Everything helps. The Food Bank is very happy with the 1.9 million products already pledged. Leo Wijnbelt, chairman of Voedselbanken Nederland: "The impact of this initiative exceeds our expectations. We never dared to dream that it would be taken up so big. With this huge number of products, we can provide many households with nutritious meals."
