An alternative to milk produced by cows has won the 2020 edition of The Liveability Challenge. The challenge is an annual search for solutions to some of the biggest problems facing cities in Southeast Asia and is organised by Eco-Business.
The innovative laboratory grown milk concept was developed by Singapore based biotechnology company TurtleTree Labs. The company has succeeded in producing milk in a very artificial way. The company grows milk glandular cells using stem cells present in milk in an in vitro environment. In an adapted environment, these glandular cells separate milk, which can be extracted with a specific filtration process.
