Meatable, a leading cultivated meat company, has reached a significant milestone in its journey by successfully hosting its inaugural tasting event in Singapore. This landmark occasion comes after receiving approval from the Singapore Food Agency (SFA), which has stringent safety requirements for cultivated meat tastings.
Meatable collaborated closely with the SFA to ensure compliance with the established criteria, paving the way for its first-ever tasting. This achievement represents a crucial step towards obtaining regulatory clearance for the sale of its innovative cultivated meat products.
A select group of retail partners and the Singaporean Economic Development Board (EDB) were privileged to sample Meatable's cultivated pork sausage, showcasing the authentic flavor, texture, and bite found in traditional meat. These esteemed partners will play a pivotal role in assisting Meatable in refining, optimizing, and launching its cultivated meat offerings in restaurants and supermarkets, with the target of commercial availability in 2024.
This tasting event not only signifies a momentous occasion for Meatable but also serves as an opportunity to educate the world. Singapore, being the first country to approve cultivated meat in 2020, has emerged as a leading jurisdiction with forward-thinking regulations in this field. Guided by its ambitious 30 by 30 strategy, Singapore aims to locally and sustainably produce 30% of its nutritional requirements by 2030, bolstering its agri-food industry.
This strategic alignment makes Singapore an ideal launch market for Meatable's initial products, with subsequent expansion into the United States. The recent tasting builds upon Meatable's existing investments in Singapore's thriving food ecosystem, including partnerships with Esco Aster, the first commercially licensed cultivated meat manufacturer, and plant-based butcher Love Handle. The tasting event took place at Country Foods' Experiential Centre, located in The Arts House (Old Parliament House), where Meatable and Love Handle are jointly establishing the Future of Food Innovation Centre in downtown Singapore.
Looking ahead, Meatable plans to organize additional tastings in Singapore and globally to educate prospective partners and consumers, while also gaining valuable insights to further enhance the development and scalability of cultivated meat.
