Hollander Barendrecht launches the start-up Fresh Fulfilment in response to new developments in food e-commerce and fresh food retail. The independent sister company offers room for innovation and experimentation, while Hollander Barendrecht can focus entirely on the further development of its current customer relationship.
Stein van Est, Director of Fresh Fulfilment: "We are seeing two important trends in fresh food logistics: the ambition to get products ever fresher to the end user and the growth of the online food market. Emerging and established retailers are looking for new solutions in the fresh food chain. Fresh Fulfilment controls the entire chain - from storage and stock management to distribution, quality control and transport. Building on 90 years of experience of Hollander Barendrecht, Fresh Fulfilment enables us to switch faster and more flexibly and also to focus on innovation, sustainability and other developments within the sector.
Fresh Fulfilment focuses on logistics services to customers in (fresh) retail, hospitality and online. In order to meet the specific requirements of e-commerce, the entire operation is designed for a strongly changing range and prepared for any growth spurts of start-up and scale-up customers. The entire fresh fulfilment is quickly adaptable and scalable, while the daily operation is guaranteed. New ideas can be tested directly in data simulations and pilots and can then be implemented immediately afterwards. Fresh Fulfilment now takes care of the complete fresh logistics of its first e-commerce customer: Stockon.
The best example of the new strength is the creation of Fresh Fulfilment itself: within six weeks a fully operational distribution centre has been set up, from finding and moving into a new building to setting up the systems and hiring new people. It can happen that fast. Learning and adjusting are central to every step. Fresh Fulfilment and Hollander Barendrecht will therefore actively exchange knowledge and experiences as input for continuous improvement processes within both companies.
