Launch of 'applebones' soda without chemicals

Soft drink start-up Leppa has developed a soft drink that is 100% natural. Made from Apple bones (referring to the core of the apple). A local, healthy alternative - free of complicated transport chains - made from apple remains. Free of E-numbers, chemicals and artificial colour, odour, sweetness or flavouring. Also no preservatives are used and the beverage is made from fresh lemon ginger juice & apple bones.

Every year we waste 644 million kilos of fruit and vegetables. Could be better, thought entrepreneurs Rutger Homan and Liselotte van der Lugt. The young couple personally collect fruit leftovers - which would otherwise be thrown away - from the farmer in the polder and take it to the shed to mix and bottle the juice. This weekend, the two manually bottled 3000 bottles at the new production location in Flevoland. All of them have a brand new label. "Over the past year, we have focused on the perfection of the recipe. We used Corona time to work hard. New production location and branding had to be ready when the hospitality industry reopened" says Liselotte. And we succeeded. As of this week the brand new bottle can be ordered via the website.

The soft drink with the taste 'Applebones' is now available at 30 points of sale in and around Amsterdam, including the Skate Café, the Goudfazant and the School.

Same core. Different peel.

Leppa has been around for over a year. This week it was announced that the drink will get a new 'peel'. In collaboration with a South African artist a new label and logo have been designed. With the new peel Rutger expects to appeal better to the target group: "The fact that the soft drink is made of foodwaste and that it is healthy is nice but an afterthought. We want to create a soft drink brand that fits a certain lifestyle. Tough, outdoors and sporty"

The logo consists of two swallows. Swallows are migratory birds, in winter they migrate to warmer places but they always return. "For the logo we spent months looking for a good metaphor for recycling: leaving and coming back from the apple remnants". It was important for the entrepreneurs to let go of the 'apple juice content'. Leppa is a tough soft drink and that's where a tough image comes in.
