On January 26, representatives from seven universities of applied sciences, seven vocational schools, two municipalities, and various organizations gathered in Den Bosch to launch the research project "Mbo Student in Action for Plant-Based Food". This ambitious project, hosted at the vocational institution Yuverta, focuses on the perception of vocational students regarding plant-based food.
The dual objective of the research includes gaining profound insights into the thoughts and habits of vocational students regarding food choices, with a specific emphasis on plant-based options. Antien Zuidberg, lecturer at the HAS green academy and project leader, highlights the lack of knowledge about the eating habits of young adults and their transition to independent living as a crucial focal point.
The project implements the concept of "challenge-based learning", encouraging students to actively contribute to the research and devise solutions. This approach motivates students not only to initiate changes in their behavior but also to inspire their peers.
The research, conducted in collaboration with universities of applied sciences and vocational schools, will take place in four regions in the Netherlands: Brabant, South Holland, the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area, and the North. Both vocational and university students will participate in the project, integrating profession-related challenges into the vocational education program. University students will complete internships and thesis assignments within the project, bridging the gap between research at university and vocational levels.
The research project "Mbo Student in Action for Plant-Based Food" is carried out in collaboration with various partners, including the HAS green academy, various universities of applied sciences and vocational institutions, local authorities, and organizations such as JOGG, Young Learning Eating, Flevo Campus, MBO Platform Sports and Healthy Lifestyle, and the Nutrition Center. Funding is provided by the SIA steering body and the ministries of Agriculture, Nature, and Food Quality, and Health, Welfare, and Sport.
