HelloFresh: The Dutch don't eat enough vegetables

  • 18 June 2020

Three out of four Dutch people eat over 90 grams too few vegetables a day. This is shown in a recent survey of 1000 respondents from HelloFresh. 21.8 percent of the respondents indicated that they 'do not need any more vegetables', because they already 'feel sufficiently healthy'.

The Nutrition Centre recommends eating 250 grams of vegetables per day. The HelloFresh survey shows that respondents consume an average of 157.6 grams of vegetables per day. This means more than 92.4 grams less than the Nutrition Centre advises.

Too little money to buy vegetables

The reasons for eating too few vegetables vary. A large proportion of respondents indicated that they felt healthy enough and therefore did not need more vegetables (21.8%) or simply did not want to eat more vegetables (23%). Money also plays a role. A small percentage of respondents (10%) indicate that they want to eat more vegetables, but cannot afford to do so.
