HAS University College becomes HAS Green Academy

  • 08 September 2022

HAS University of Applied Sciences is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. Since 1947 the institution has grown from a higher agricultural school into a versatile university of applied sciences where students and professionals can find education, research, expertise and advice. The HAS is heading towards a successful future as the expertise centre for the agriculture, food and living environment sector in the south of the Netherlands. To reinforce this development HAS University of Applied Sciences is now called HAS Green Academy.

HAS focuses on lifelong learning with a wide range of higher professional education courses, company courses and in-company courses in the field of agri, food and living environment. HAS supports (future) professionals in their development. Together with organisations, companies and governments, HAS green academy explores and connects 'green' knowledge and skills and applies them in practice.

Movement and progress

The size and complexity of social issues in the fields of agriculture, food and the living environment require new answers and new solutions. The HAS is actively looking for connections and opportunities with a focus on making our environment healthier by providing sufficient healthy food. University president Reggy van der Wielen: "Our changed name endorses this. HAS green academy stands for movement, progress. As an explorer of, for and with the green sector, we offer a place to learn, to research, to exchange ideas and to find new perspectives and angles. We offer space for practice-based research and local and (inter)national entrepreneurship. That way, we prepare for new forms of education such as associate degrees, professional doctorates, masters and microcredentials."

New house style

An updated name also comes with a new house style. The introduction of this new style will be gradual and well-considered. From both a sustainability and cost perspective, the HAS takes into account natural replacement or purchase dates. The first visible manifestations of the new strategy are a completely updated website: www.has.nl and a new campaign for students. Van der Wielen: "The colour green is the main colour of our house style and stands for growth and development of (future) professionals in agriculture, food and the living environment and therefore also for growth and development of the sectors in which they work or will work."
