The Protein Transition Map NL continues to expand: over the past year, 70 new organisations have been added. The growing list reflects just how much momentum the protein transition is gaining. A total of 520 companies and institutions are now listed, ranging from young start-ups to established names in the food industry. The map is an initiative by Foodvalley, The Protein Community, the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality, and the Dutch provinces.
Of the newly added organisations, 37% are working on alternative proteins. These include companies developing or producing sustainable sources such as microalgae, insects, beans, soy, and mycoprotein—each contributing to a shift toward more plant-based diets.
Meanwhile, 24% of the new additions are established companies making a move toward plant-based alternatives. It’s a clear sign that the protein transition is gaining broader support across the sector.
Roughly 14% of the new organisations are young initiatives or start-ups. Often still small in scale, they bring fresh ideas and focus on regional collaboration. They're building new supply chains and helping to shift the market. Another 25% of new entries play a supporting role—ranging from cultivation and knowledge sharing to distribution and community building. These organisations help keep the ecosystem running.
The Protein Transition Map is connected to Foodleap.com. The platform, managed by Foodvalley and The Protein Community, offers more detailed information about each organisation on the map.
