FutureGoods on the shelves at Lidl

  • 01 July 2019

Insects, granola with mealworm powder, seaweed wraps, vegan ice cream and rescue food. As of 27 June, Lidl, the supermarket chain, in collaboration with incubator StartLife, will organise the 'FutureGoods' theme week. For one week, special, sustainable and innovative products will be on the shelves of all the more than 400 Lidl branches in the Netherlands, from young local start-ups and suppliers.

"Consumers are increasingly opting for vegetable or sustainable products. With the FutureGoods theme week, Lidl makes these innovative products accessible to a broad target group. In addition, we offer local suppliers the opportunity to have their unique concept on the shelves of all Lidl stores," says Erik van den Hoogen, senior purchasing manager at Lidl Nederland.

The participating entrepreneurs and products are:

Startups of StartLife:
- Gigi Gelato - Gigi's is 100% vegan ice cream made from fruit and vegetables.
- Seamore - has the mission to introduce the world to eating seaweed through seaweed wraps.
- Farmer&Foodie - strives to keep the food print as low as possible for its carrot and tomato burger.
- Krusli - Cruesli made from residual flow food, also called 'rescue food' for a sustainable breakfast.

Startups of StartHub:
- Zzinga - A sustainable and light alcoholic drink. A new variant of honey wine that helps protect bees.
- Banabar - Banabar is the first organic fruit and nut bar based on dried banana in the Dutch market.
