French gardeners opt for innovative FreshSAFE

  • 18 January 2022

Breton gardeners were looking for a reliable packaging concept for their white beans: "Cocos de Paimpol". It is a semi-dry product, which changes extremely quickly after harvest, but had to remain fresh, tasty and have a long shelf life. MULTIVAC's innovative FreshSAFE packaging concept was the solution for these delicate natural products.

Around 200 producers are dedicated to the cultivation and propagation of "Cocos de Paimpol". These yellow and violet legumes with their egg-shaped seeds and delicate melting bite find their ideal growing conditions in the area between Paimpol and Tréguier. In 1998, 'Cocos de Paimpol' was the first fresh vegetable and the first Breton product to be granted a special designation of origin. A few years later, this became a protected product name.

Cocos de Paimpol - popular and very delicate

"To meet consumer demand for a ready-to-eat, "all-in-one" product, the idea of packaging Paimpol beans under a protective atmosphere was conceived in 2020," explains Florian Josselin. He is responsible for product innovations within the cooperative.

MULTIVAC's innovative FreshSAFE packaging system optimises the oxygen content in the packs in a continuous, natural and sustainable manner. Les Maraîchers d'Armor, a cooperative in the French region of Brittany, uses the technology to package its white beans, known as "Cocos de Paimpol", in trays under a protective atmosphere. This preserves the product's shelf life and quality for as long as possible.
