At the Verspillingsfabriek in Veghel on 25 November 2022, the 2022 Food Heroes were announced: the 6 most impactful food changers in the Netherlands. They were chosen by the professional jury from the 2022 Food100 list as food heroes because of their extraordinary and great commitment to making our food system better and fairer. All gamechangers from the Food100 list gathered for the reveal at the Trendtable, where Food Inspiration presented and served the latest trends in food.
Food heroes under 35:
Bas Antonissen - Co-owner BoerBas
BoerBas is a closed pig farm, meaning that all animals are born on the farm and stay there. Doing fair business in an open, transparent chain in which the farmer is valued financially and emotionally is what Bas is committed to. And to set a good example himself, he opens his farm every Saturday to show visitors that things can be done differently.
Leonie Horne - Project coordinator 'Good Care You can Taste' at Alliantie Voeding in de Zorg
As project coordinator of 'Good Care You can Taste', Leonie Horne is committed to accelerating recovery and promoting the health of hospital patients and hospital staff. The goal? To achieve a healthy food offer in all Dutch hospitals and healthcare facilities before 2030. Already 45 hospitals have joined, meeting monthly to exchange knowledge.
Yasmina Khababi - Founder of Freshtable
Yasmina Khababi connects migration, climate change and inequality with her company Freshtable and the Fresh Academy. She does this by supporting status holders to apply their skillset in the Dutch market and by delivering honest halal and vega(n) meals. Freshtable now delivers 60 to 100 meals a week to people's homes in 14 cities throughout the Netherlands.
Food heroes over 35:
Esther de Snoo - Editor-in-Chief of Nieuwe Oogst
As editor-in-chief at Nieuwe Oogst, Esther de Snoo is very conscious of her role as an agricultural news medium. At a time when polarisation and negativity are on the rise and trust is disappearing, Esther continuously tries to share uncoloured, factual news and knowledge.
Leon Meijer - Councillor 'Food' at Gemeente Ede
As the first councilor 'Food', Leon Meijer helped put urban food policy on the map in the Netherlands. In doing so, he connected food regions. In the past year, he campaigned for more municipal powers to realise healthy food environments.
Maurits Tofohr - Co-founder of Joinprogram.com
Maurits Tofohr is passionately working on 'corporate catering of the future': tasty, mostly plant-based offerings and structurally less waste. To achieve this, his company Join Program lets guests indicate via an app whether they are coming to the office, what their dietary preferences are and how they liked past meals. A central kitchen then produces meals for several companies at once. This way, less cutting waste occurs. A great combination of good food, super-easy ordering and sustainability.
