Food 13.1 percent more expensive in August

Foodstuffs were 13.1 percent more expensive in August 2022 than in the same month last year. In July, the year-on-year price increase was 12.3 percent. Pasta products in particular contributed to this development, according to the CBS (Statistics Netherlands).

Consumer goods and services were on average 12.0 percent more expensive in August than in the same month last year. In July the inflation rate was 10.3 percent. Energy prices in particular caused a further rise in inflation.

Price increase energy

Higher energy prices (electricity, gas and district heating) caused an increase in inflation. The price of energy was 151 percent higher in August than in the same month last year. In July this was 108 percent.
