Labour migrants in the meat sector can now report workplace misconduct through an independent platform. The initiative was launched by CNV, FNV and the Central Organisation for the Meat Sector (COV), in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment. Reports can be submitted online via www.vleeswerkt.nl.
The reporting point is intended for employees facing misconduct in the workplace. An independent social secretariat handles the reports and ensures full confidentiality. Where necessary, reports are passed on to specialised organisations. According to the initiators, this guarantees that signals are taken seriously and can be acted upon promptly.
The meat sector relies heavily on international employees. For this group in particular, it can be difficult to speak up about unsafe conditions or unfair treatment. “Without their efforts, the production of affordable, accessible and nutritious meat for the Netherlands and Europe would not be possible,” the organisations involved state. The reporting point is intended to strengthen their protection and position.
Through the Vleeswerkt.nl website, employees have direct access to the reporting platform. It serves as an addition to the existing sources of information within the sector. The focus lies on accessibility and speed: identifying, reporting and resolving. The initiative underscores the shared responsibility of trade unions and employers in addressing workplace misconduct.
