The difference between meat prices within the European Union in 2019 is particularly large. The Netherlands is one of the top five countries in Europe with meat prices. This is shown by a study of the European statistical office.
The European statistical office has compared the price levels of all European countries with each other and put them next to the average price index of the EU (100). This study shows that meat prices were highest in Austria (145) and Luxembourg (141), followed by France (131), the Netherlands (127), Belgium (125) and Finland (124).
The lowest meat price levels in 2019 were in Poland and Romania (both with a price index of 63), followed by Bulgaria (66) and Lithuania (71).
The categories of meat covered by these statistics include beef, pork, lamb, sheep and goat meat, poultry and edible offal and other meat preparations.
The Eurostat study also includes the meat prices of Switzerland, Iceland, Norway and England. Switzerland tops all other countries with a price index that is almost one and a half times the European average.
