DMK Group builds new natural cheese warehouse in Hoogeveen

  • 07 February 2025

DMK Group is taking an important step in its cheese strategy with the construction of a new maturation warehouse in Hoogeveen. With this investment, the dairy cooperative will control the entire production chain for naturally matured cheese in the Netherlands. This ranges from milk supply by members of the DOC Kaas U.A. cooperative to production, maturation, and packaging by Uniekaas Holland B.V. in Kaatsheuvel. The warehouse is fully automated and offers storage for more than 2,000 tons of cheese. Each year, about 25 million kilos of naturally matured cheese will leave the warehouse.

Efficiency and sustainability

According to Frans Vlaar, COO of the Industry business unit at DMK Group, this step not only strengthens the company’s market position but also contributes to sustainability. By maturing the cheese in-house, the need for external storage and transport is eliminated. This results in shorter lead times, lower costs, and reduced CO₂ emissions. Fewer intermediate steps also improve maturation conditions, which benefits the consistency of the cheese quality.

New jobs in Hoogeveen

The new maturation warehouse will also create jobs at the production site in Hoogeveen. DMK views this investment as a sustainable reinforcement of the Dutch market, which the company considers its second home market.
