In 2017, Diviande started the construction of a new production location, including storage and distribution of its chilled and frozen (meat) products and an office function. During the construction, sustainability was a continuous aspect of attention and work was carried out according to BREEAM-NL requirements. The new building has now been in use for over a year. Last month, Diviande was officially awarded the highest possible BREEAM-NL Outstanding certificate. The highest score, 5 stars (Outstanding), is unique for a food company and distinguishes it in the market.
Many customers, both national and international, know where to find Diviande for the portioning, processing, packaging and freezing of meat, meat products, carpaccio's and meal components. In order to be able to continue its growth and quality and to be able to serve its customers well in the future, a larger and more modern building was necessary. In 2017, Diviande decided to move to new premises in collaboration with Jan Zandbergen BV. The building was built in accordance with the highest BREEAM-NL requirements. The new location is equipped with the most modern and sustainable solutions that reduce the impact on nature and the environment.
BREEAM-NL (Building Research Establishment's Environmental Assessment Method) is the leading and most widely used method for the sustainability performance of projects worldwide. Diviande's production site has been assessed for various categories such as Management, Energy, Transportation, Water, Materials, Waste, Land Use and Ecology and Pollution. Diviande achieved the highest achievable score of 5 stars (Outstanding). Investments in heat recovery of the cooling engines and the high insulation value of the building, as a result of which the building was delivered gas-neutral, were particularly important in this respect.
Diviande is rightly proud of the BREEAM-NL certificate. Cees van der Pijl, Director at Diviande: "We managed to achieve a wonderful score, which is unique for a food company. It is a well-deserved reward for the efforts made by all those involved. The certificate gives us a distinctive position in the market and enables us to be an important link as a partner/producer for customers with a sustainability vision".
In addition to recognition of the achievement, Cees van der Pijl also sees the certificate as an incentive. "Sustainability is not just an aspect of construction. It is a continuous process that you have to keep an eye on and, above all, want to keep an eye on. We continue to work on improvements where and when we see them, both in terms of the building, internal processes and innovative products. For us, the certificate is the basis for joining a new, sustainable decade".
