The demand for protein-rich foods in the consumer goods industry continues to grow steadily. This trend is clearly reflected in the rapid growth of products containing 25 grams or more of protein per serving. According to a report from NielsenIQ, these products are currently among the fastest-growing categories in the food industry.
Specific dietary trends like Keto and Paleo, both of which emphasize high protein intake, are contributing to this rising demand. Over the past year, sales of products labeled with "Keto Diet" and "Paleo Diet" claims have increased by 14% and 23%, respectively. This heightened interest in high-protein options is also evident in consumer online search behavior. Searches for "high protein" have risen by 19%, indicating a broad interest in protein-rich products.
Searches for alternative protein sources, such as "pea protein" and "protein isolates," have also seen significant growth. This points to a growing awareness and willingness to explore new protein sources. These developments present opportunities for producers to meet consumer demand and innovate within the high-protein food market.
Traditional protein-rich categories like meat and seafood are seeing a decline in popularity. This suggests that the growth in protein consumption is increasingly focused on alternative products found in the center aisles of supermarkets.
