Collaboration Searious Business and Moonen Packaging

  • 05 December 2019

Searious Business and Moonen Packaging have started an intensive collaboration. The goal is clear: by 2030, one hundred percent of the packaging must be made from recycled or renewable raw materials. Together with Moonen Packaging's customers, packaging is being made more sustainable step by step. Searious Business plays an important role in this.

"A collaboration with Searious Business is actually obvious. We have a common vision. We believe in a world without waste, where all raw materials still have value after use. Searious Business wants to ensure that no single piece of plastic disappears into the ocean or nature. So we are really on the same page," says Hans Houtappels, Business Unit Manager Industry at Moonen Packaging. "For us, this collaboration is also very valuable. We want to make an impact. The cooperation with a major player in the field of packaging - such as Moonen Packaging - enables us to reach many customers in an efficient way and to work with them in the field of sustainable packaging", says Rosemarie Wuite, Business Developer at Searious Business.

Sustainable ambition

By 2030, Moonen Packaging intends to sell only packaging made from recycled or renewable raw materials. "We consume too much and the earth cannot recover from it. By renewable raw materials we therefore mean raw materials that can be harvested once or more within one year, such as agricultural waste and bamboo," continues Houtappels. "We have set an ambitious goal. After all, sustainable alternatives are not yet available or known to us for all packaging. We also see that we need to accelerate. That is why we are entering into partnerships with external parties, such as Searious Business."

Impactful cooperation

"Together with Moonen we looked at the current plastic supply. We have put forward sustainable alternatives - based on weight - for the top twenty best-selling packaging. We are now examining with customers whether the alternative is indeed an option and whether it can be tested. In addition, we are working with Moonen on customer-specific projects. We hope to be able to present a successful case there very soon," says Wuite. "In concrete terms, the cooperation with Searious Business aims to prevent 1,150 tonnes of plastic waste and save 2,417 tonnes of CO2 emissions by 2020," adds Houtappels.
