CO2 calculation simplified with new tool

  • 03 September 2024

Companies are required to calculate their CO2 emissions, partly due to legislation such as the CSRD. Regreener supports businesses in this task with the free Regreener Footprint Navigator, a new tool that helps companies map their CO2 emissions (Scope 1-2-3).

Regreener's Footprint Navigator

Regreener offers the Footprint Navigator for free to help companies with sustainability efforts. Understanding emissions is the first step toward reducing a company's footprint. Every company has a CO2 footprint, and after calculating it, they can develop a reduction plan and compensate for remaining emissions. The tool is ideal for companies just starting to measure their CO2 emissions. Companies already calculating their emissions in Excel can use this tool for more accurate measurements.

In addition to the free version, there is a paid version available with extra features, including a customized client environment with more emission categories and guidance on CO2 calculations.

How is CO2 emissions calculated?

The tool is based on the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, the international standard for measuring emissions. It focuses on three "Scopes":

  • Scope 1: company facilities and vehicles
  • Scope 2: purchased energy
  • Scope 3: upstream and downstream emissions

Data sources such as CO2-emissionfactors.nl and the ICAO are used for the calculations.

What happens after the CO2 calculation?

Calculating emissions is the first step. Next, the emissions must be analyzed, and targets set for reduction, such as switching to green energy or electrifying the vehicle fleet.

Compensating for remaining emissions is also important. This can be done by planting trees or participating in certified CO2 offset projects. Research shows that companies that offset emissions tend to reduce them faster. This way, they contribute to climate projects that prevent or remove CO2 from the atmosphere.
