Changes to NVWA rates effective July 1, 2024

  • 26 June 2024

The Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) will adjust its rates effective July 1, 2024. These changes impact the costs for inspections, re-inspections, system supervision, certification, and sampling and analysis for businesses and individuals engaged in commercial activities. The rates are determined by the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality (LNV) and the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS).

The rate adjustment follows a ruling by the College van Beroep voor het bedrijfsleven (CBb) on September 26, 2023. Following this ruling, the rates have been modified to ensure the NVWA can charge accurate rates from July 1, 2024. This adjustment is the result of consultations between business representatives and the government. The objections leading to the CBb ruling have now been resolved, and erroneously charged costs will be reimbursed by July 1, 2024. Invoices for activities from September 26, 2023, to July 1, 2024, will be adjusted according to the CBb ruling.

Cost recalculation

The NVWA rates are annually adjusted to reflect rising wages and prices, as well as developments in supervision. The current interim adjustment stems from the CBb ruling on NVWA rates. A detailed overview of the new rates is available on the NVWA website.

These changes ensure that businesses are promptly informed of the updated rates and can adjust their financial planning accordingly. It remains important to keep track of these updates for accurate financial management.
