Better packaging with advanced skin vacuum films

  • 06 June 2024

Sealed Air Corporation, a pioneer in packaging technology and sustainability, proudly announces the introduction of three groundbreaking skin packaging top films. These new films are designed to set new standards in packaging efficiency and performance.

The top films are compatible with Sealed Air's well-known CRYOVAC® Darfresh® on Tray, Darfresh rollstock, and Vacuum Tray Skin technologies. They offer significant benefits for food processors, such as superior oxygen barrier, enhanced optical properties, exceptional formability, strong resistance to implosion, and excellent sealability.

A key innovation is the cost savings compared to MAP (Modified Atmosphere Packaging): the Darfresh® on Tray system reduces total packaging costs (TOPACO) by 15-53% compared to MAP packaging, depending on the tray thickness. The new top films enable a significant reduction in material usage, with a decrease from 100/120 microns to 80 microns. This leads to a 21-37% lower CO2 footprint in applications with Darfresh® on Tray, thanks to less food waste and thinner trays.

Additionally, they increase productivity from 6 cycles per minute to 8.5 cycles per minute. When used with Vacuum Tray Skin technology, the new top films achieve an impressive 4-51% plastic reduction compared to other tray skin materials. This underscores Sealed Air's leading role in sustainable packaging solutions.

"Sealed Air is proud to bring these revolutionary solutions to the market," said Marta Lara, Senior Marketing Manager Retail at Sealed Air. "Our commitment to innovation, sustainability, and customer success is reflected in these new products. We believe that these improvements will not only benefit our customers by enhancing efficiency and reducing costs but will also significantly contribute to our shared goal of a more sustainable future."

With the launch of these new skin packaging top films, Sealed Air reaffirms its commitment to protecting goods, preserving food, and improving business processes through innovative and responsible packaging solutions.
