Agrifirm innovates with sustainable rumen-resistant protein

  • 21 July 2023

Agrifirm has patented a technology called Greenwave that enables climate-friendly production of rumen-resistant protein for cattle feed. This technology not only reduces nitrogen and CO2 emissions in dairy farming, but also contributes to the health of cows.

The cooperative has set up a special plant in Oss to produce these advanced protein sources, marketed under the name AminoGo. The rumen resistant proteins improve intestinal digestion in cows and increase ration protein efficiency, resulting in reduced nitrogen emissions.

Greenwave technology

Unique to Greenwave technology is the use of radio frequency to produce high-quality resistant protein without the use of fossil fuels. The process runs entirely on 100% green electricity, significantly reducing the ecological footprint.

Agrifirm's R&D department has conducted extensive research to develop this technology, which enables the heating of the product from the inside, similar to a microwave oven but adapted for industrial production. The technology is already used in the human food industry, but its application for cattle feed is new and patented by Agrifirm.

AminoGo rumen-resistant protein

Jeroen Verver, Director of Cattle at Agrifirm, explains: "With Greenwave technology, we can offer an environmentally friendly alternative for rumen-resistant protein. AminoGo is a product line with rumen-resistant protein from soy and rapeseed meal, rich in naturally available proteins and amino acids, which provides both nutritional benefits for the cow and good animal health. Livestock producers using our feeds will automatically experience the benefits of AminoGo."

Climate-friendly solutions

With the production of AminoGo in a new facility in Oss, Agrifirm is demonstrating its commitment to provide sustainable and technologically advanced solutions for the agricultural sector for the benefit of a responsible food chain for future generations.
