Nominees FNLI Award announced

  • 08 July 2019

The three nominees for the FNLI Award 2019 are known. Kees den Uijl (Euroma), Ad Jansen (Suiker Unie) and the Lipton team (Unilever) have been selected as potential winners of the FNLI Award and thus have a chance to win the title 'Frontrunner of the food industry'. The FNLI Award is being presented for the first time this year, to individuals or teams whose commitment to major social issues makes an important contribution to the challenges of the food industry. We introduce the nominees to you.

Euroma

Mr Kees den Uijl of Euroma was a pioneer in technology at the beginning of his career. He was the first in the world to apply a new steam technology to herbs and spices. This PrimaPura steam technology enables adequate heat treatment while maintaining quality and taste. The risk of food contamination is reduced, but also the number of spores is drastically reduced. And that has a positive effect on the shelf life. It is a continuous steam system in which herbs and spices are disinfected with steam at a microbiological level.

Sugar Union

As Suiker Unie's Logistics Manager, Ad Jansen is constantly on the lookout for ways to improve sugar logistics. In addition to efficiency gains, he is also constantly taking initiatives to ensure that the transport of sugar is as safe and sustainable as possible. With the 'On the road on its own green gas' project, Ad has actively sought cooperation with various stakeholders, such as logistics service providers, sugar customers and truck manufacturers. With this project, CO2 emissions per bulk truck will be reduced by 90%, which is equivalent to 160 tons of CO2 per truck per year. In addition, compared to a Euro 6 diesel engine, 75% to 90% less particulate matter and nitrogen oxides are emitted. The green gas is generated by Suiker Unie itself from sugar beet residues in its biomass digesters.

Unilever

The Lipton team has kicked off the transformation of Lipton Ice Tea into a circular soft drink brand. Key to their success is consumer involvement in recycling, the unique way of collecting bottles and litter in general. An example of this is the 'Clean Up' campaign organised in collaboration with GoClean (from 16 March to 9 April). With the help of GoClean volunteers, 51,000 pieces of litter were collected.

Winner chosen at FNLI-Year meeting

On 10 October, the nominated candidates will be presented to the public during the FNLI annual meeting in Amersfoort. The winner of the FNLI Award 2019 will be chosen by the public.
