Aan de Stegge: new building Royal Smilde Bakery Edam

Aan de Stegge Twello reached agreement with Royal Smilde Bakery for the turnkey realisation of a new head office with production hall on the Hamerstraat in Edam. Construction will start in week 40.

Need for new construction

Royal Smilde Bakery supplies a wide range of bake-off snacks, fill-off semi-finished products and baking mixes to artisan bakers, retailers, food service professionals, industrial customers and consumers. They do this with three production locations in the Netherlands and several international sales organisations. Royal Smilde Bakery wanted to renew and expand its production capacity at the location in Edam.

Selection procedure

The contract was granted to Aan de Stegge Twello after a selection procedure in competition with two other construction companies. Royal Smilde Bakery chose Aan de Stegge Twello because of the progress of the preparatory phase. "Aan de Stegge submitted an attractive proposal that was in line with our wishes. During the engineering phase we worked well together to achieve a good result, which can now be implemented", says Royal Smilde Bakery.

The new building plan is based on Royal Smilde Bakery's Plan of Requirements. Aan de Stegge Twello developed and designed a complete industrial building consisting of a production section and a new office.

Turnkey building plan

The plan consists of 1,325 m2 of office space and 4,500 m2 of industrial space (production, storage and engineering). The office part will be built in an energy-neutral way. In order to create space, some existing buildings on the site will be demolished. In this way, the accommodation will be considerably expanded. Aan de Stegge Twello is responsible for both the demolition, new construction and adaptation of the existing industrial building. The construction time of the total project is 45 weeks.
